WHO AM I?
As a kid, my grandpa used to call me “el ingeniero” (Spanish for “the engineer”). That was mostly because I spent my time poking around any tech gadget that crossed my path — breaking a couple cassette and CD players along the way.
In middle and high school, I was the classmate assigned to write on the cardboard posters and, later on, to make the PowerPoint presentations. My creativity led me to study a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design. After finding out the hard way that manual crafts weren’t my thing, I went back to being the teammate on the computer, assigned to do the presentations and renders. This paved the way to what I’m doing today. Honestly, I’m not quite fond of any design adjectives/labels, but I believe Product Design is the most accurate contender.
I’ve spent the last 5+ years designing solutions for some really interesting challenges. From creating a hybrid, remote experience for kids in Jalisco to regain some much-needed hope through STEAM games and stories during the COVID pandemic, to designing some wickedly complex dashboards for companies with up to 80% market share.
If I had to choose a job title, it’d likely be something like “problem solver”. As Lou Downe puts it, products and services are “something that helps someone do something.” I’ve always said that I could be hired to do anything, as long as it has a positive impact on society (and I intend to stick to that until the very end).
